Nearing the Next Build


Hello again!

We're approaching the next test build for This Little Knight of Mine

With this one our biggest goal is to get enemy AI up and running (and jumping and attacking)! Lots of research has gone into creating intelligent enemies that can pursue the player around the environment and after weighing the pros and cons of several solutions, our programmer decided to attempt sensor-based pathfinding rather than using an algorithm like A*. 
This devlog from Andrey Torchinsky's King, Witch & Dragon project was super helpful for figuring out this approach and we recommend checking out King, Witch & Dragon if you want to see another awesome 2.5D platformer develop!

This AI work will be especially important down the road when we implement different enemy types and NPCs. We're keeping things flexible so we can use the same scripts to create many varied behaviors for different characters.

Speaking of NPCs, we've been working on a dialogue system as well so you can converse with the strange folks of Nautrə!

On the art side of things, our animators have been hard at work bringing our ice cube enemy, the Freezle, to life.
We've also been doing some research into post-processing and shaders to bring a more hand-drawn aesthetic to our 3D world. Things are still in the air at the moment, but stay tuned for screenshots when we get an effect we're happy with!

If all goes according to plan, the new build will go up in a few days. 🤞
